A rainy afternoon that lasted noticeably longer than an afternoon. Voices come out of the plastic tubes a second after you hear the knees going through them, and the air coming down the slide is cooler than the air in the room. You keep glancing at the window where a grown-up is supposed to be sitting with a cup and a coat over the chair. The socks-only rule, the smell of warm plastic, the way you could be completely alone inside something full of other kids — that part is exact.
